Description

Hi! Newbie error: more than once now (poor short term memory, wha-dya-gonna-do) I've made the mistake of typing a link as name-of-page?; unfortunately, rather than telling me I've done something stupid (or at least wrong), Trac just takes me to the home page of the project, without explanation. A more experienced colleague where I work agrees: this is not (new)user-friendly behavior - might it be possible to have Trac inform the "offender" when they've made this rather obvious and natural mistake? Thanks!

(Sorry if this is an existing ticket: I began to look for something resembling it in the wiki-related group of existing tickets, but that list is already so long...might I also suggest, while I have someone's eye, that the ticket, wiki, and browser categories (at the very least) be further subdivided in some manner.)

sorry, I forgot that [wiki: name-of-page] w/out an ! would be interpreted as wiki formatting and thus fall victim to the very defect I'm reporting!

Not sure to understand the issue:

[wiki: name-of-page]

creates a wiki link name "name-of-page", but as you forgot to specified a name of page, such as

[wiki:page name-of-page]

the link defaults to the wiki start page.

Is this the behaviour you'd like to see changed?

I would say that this behaviour is fair and consistent with other syntax in Trac: when you do no specify an item, you get redirected to the default page of the domain (wiki, ticket, changeset, roadmad, etc.)

BTW, the usual syntax in Trac is to prefer the simpler CamelCase names NameOfPage over the [wiki:page name-of-page] syntax.

I'd rather go for wontfix in this case.
